Risk Taking

On TV recently, I heard someone talking about risk taking and he said “Don’t be afraid of going out on a limb, that’s where the fruit is.”

What struck me was how so many people hold back from following their dreams because of the inability to take risks. There are some things you can do to reduce the risk of any idea or dream you have.

First, get more information. Find out as much as you can about what you want to do. As you gather more information, the level of risk should diminish.

The second technique is to practice taking small risks in areas that are not as important. As you take baby steps, you will begin to feel more comfortable taking bigger risks.

The third technique is to get support from your friends and family. Surround yourself with positive people who want you to succeed. Put some distance between you and those people who are negative and non-supportive.

Finally, don’t burn your bridges behind you. Having a safety net will help you take the risks you need to take in order to be the success you want to be.
